For years, our design clients kept asking the same question: where can we buy that? The teak coffee table warming a living room. The storage bed tucked into a small guest room. The side table that pulled a whole vignette together. At Alter Design Studio, our full service interior design practice based in Tsawwassen, we heard that question often enough that we built an answer: Alter & Co.
Launched this spring, Alter & Co. is the online home shop that grew directly out of our studio’s design work. It is not a separate venture borrowing the ADS name. It is the same eye and the same values, made available to anyone who wants that look at home, with or without a full design project behind it. Our tagline says it simply: quiet beauty, thoughtfully chosen.
Browsing the site at alterandco.com feels a lot like walking through one of our finished rooms. Furnishings are chosen with the same restraint we’re known for: warm woods, honest materials, and a point of view that favors longevity over trend. We continue to support local makers where we can, alongside a wider offering sourced to meet demand as the shop grows. It is a way to bring the Alter Design Studio aesthetic home without waiting for a full renovation.
Here are a few collections we find ourselves coming back to.
The bedroom lineup includes several upholstered storage beds, led by the Julia collection, which we’ve specified in past projects for its clean, French seamed headboard and the discreet storage tucked beneath the mattress. It comes in a range of fabrics and finishes, from soft neutrals to deeper tones, so the same silhouette can suit a coastal guest room or a more layered primary bedroom, with storage included for households short on closet space.
The Natura collection brings solid teak wood into the shop, each one carved with its own grain so no two are quite alike. It is the collection behind one of our most downloaded rooms, Beach Grove Social, where the Natura Flow round coffee table anchors the living space with a kind of warmth that is easy to recognize once you have seen it in person and difficult to describe from a catalogue photo alone.
Rounding things out is a wide selection of side tables spanning several collections and finishes, from smoked wood to natural oak to sculptural stump forms. It is a category that rewards browsing: small enough to slot in almost anywhere, varied enough that there is likely one to fit a specific corner, chair, or reading nook already in mind.
