At Clancy & Clancy, we are a nationally licensed insurance agency representing many of the country’s leading insurance carriers. For nearly 60 years, we’ve proudly served the residents and businesses of Garden City. As September marks the start of a new school year, we’d like to share a few important insurance tips to help protect what matters most.
All Children
1. Increase your Umbrella Liability policy limits. Regardless of the child’s age, if their friends are injured on your premises, you could be held liability for their injuries and pain and suffering. You just never know; accidents even happen to the most careful people.
All Children Posting Info on Social Media
1. Personal Injury coverage in New York protects you from non-physical, reputational, behavioral claims rather than physical injury like a slip and fall. It could cover you for defamation, libel, or slander resulting from a social media posting. This coverage is added on to your homeowners policy by endorsement.
College Children
1. Auto insurance – Change Status of Child to “Away at School” to save premium dollars. School must be over 100 miles from home.
2. Off Campus Living – Purchase a Renters policy. Your homeowners policy will not extend liability coverage to the student living in their own leased home or apt.
Driving Age Children
1. All children, with their drivers license, should be listed on the family auto policy and the umbrella liability policy.
2. Have all members of your household who are the primary operator of a vehicle should take a defensive driving course which will reduce the automobile premium by 10% of the collision and liability premium.
