Primary Healthcare Medical Group is pleased to welcome Dr. Juan C. Velazquez, an Internal Medicine physician committed to providing compassionate, comprehensive care to patients throughout the Imperial Valley.
Dr. Velazquez’s desire to become a physician began while growing up in a medically underserved community. He recognized the need for accessible healthcare, particularly for Spanish-speaking patients, and wanted to build a career centered on helping those in need.
He completed his medical training in Ponce School of Health Sciences University and his Internal Medicine training at Seton Hall University. He was drawn to Primary Healthcare Medical Group because of its established presence in the community and its reputation for serving Imperial Valley residents.
Dr. Velazquez provides preventive care, diagnosis, and treatment of medical conditions for adults 18 and older, with care for some teenage patients as well. He especially enjoys caring for patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and obesity, as well as patients with complex or unexplained symptoms that require careful evaluation.
His approach to medicine is centered on treating the whole person, not simply the condition. He believes in listening carefully to his patients and understanding the different factors that may affect their health.
“I like to see patients as a whole person, not just their health,” Dr. Velazquez says.
During a first visit, patients can expect a comprehensive evaluation, but Dr. Velazquez’s priority is making sure patients feel heard. He encourages them to share their concerns and ask questions so they can better understand their health and treatment options.
Prevention Matters
Dr. Velazquez encourages members of the community not to put off their healthcare. Annual physicals and recommended screenings—including colonoscopies, mammograms, and prostate cancer screening when appropriate—can help identify health concerns early.
His advice is simple: eat healthy, exercise regularly, and make preventive care a priority.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Velazquez enjoys exercising, walking, dancing, and gardening. He considers gardening a form of therapy that helps him relax. His faith, family, and the opportunity to serve his community are among the things that motivate him each day.
For Dr. Velazquez, one of the most rewarding parts of being a physician is helping patients live better, healthier, and longer lives.
As a physician serving a rural and underserved community, he looks forward to building meaningful relationships with patients and making a positive difference in the Imperial Valley.
