Kathy Bush-Dutton knows luxury residential design as well as anyone in New England. As publisher of New England Home magazine and one of the most recognized figures in the region’s luxury home community, she has spent her career surrounded by exceptional houses and the people who create them. So when her own sun-baked patio sat unused through the heart of every summer, she wanted a space that belonged in that world.
She selected Boston Pergolas and StruXure New England to build a showcase – not just a renovation, but a documented example of what a fully integrated outdoor room can be, shared with the design community she’s part of.
The project puts the James Hardie family of brands to work as one system. A StruXure louvered roof crowns the space. Beneath it, the deck was rebuilt on a TimberTech Aluminum Substructure with TimberTech PVC deck boards – a frame engineered to outlast the boards it carries – finished with TimberTech Rail with cable infill and Azek trim to keep the view open and the structure durable. Around that core, Fenetex retractable screens ride on self-adjusting, spring-loaded tracks that stay taut through New England’s weather swings, Big Ass Fans deliver airflow on the stillest days, and Aspect LED lighting extends the evening long after sunset.
It’s a space Kathy and her family now use spring through fall – comfortable enough to entertain, streamlined enough to disappear into the view. In her words, she loves how it feels out there, and everyone who visits is more comfortable because of it.
For a StruXure dealer, there’s no better proof of concept than a home like this, and no better partner than someone who lives at the center of New England’s design community. Designed, integrated, and perfected by Boston Pergolas and StruXure New England — with StruXure, TimberTech, and Azek from the James Hardie family, alongside Fenetex, Big Ass Fans, and Aspect LED.
