One of the things I hear frequently from patients and parents is some version of, “We’ve been thinking about doing this for a while.”
I understand all too well that life gets busy. We all have things to do – school, sports, work, family schedules and a dozen other things compete for our attention. Orthodontic treatment can become one of those things you know you want to explore, but somehow keep pushing down the list.
My advice? Don’t let uncertainty be the reason you wait.
Taking the first step of visiting the office for a consultation doesn’t mean you’re committing to braces that day. It doesn’t mean you need to know whether braces or clear aligners are right for you, and it certainly doesn’t mean you’re expected to understand all the details of orthodontic treatment before you walk through our doors.
That’s our job.
At ARCH Orthodontics, the first step is really a conversation. We look at what’s happening with your teeth and bite, listen to what you’d like to accomplish and explain what we see. From there, we can talk about treatment options, timing and what makes the most sense for you or your child.
As a doctor, I believe information gives patients confidence. When you understand why we’re recommending something and what you can expect along the way, the process becomes much less intimidating.
As a dad, I also know parents want to make good decisions for their children. You want to know whether treatment is necessary, what it will accomplish and how it’s going to fit into an already busy family life. Those are exactly the questions you should be asking.
Lastly, and maybe most importantly, as your partner in this journey, I want you to feel that we’re going through the process together.
Orthodontics in 2026 offers more options than many people realize. Depending on the individual patient, treatment may include traditional braces, more discreet options or clear aligners. Technology has changed dramatically, allowing us to plan treatment with greater precision while making the experience more comfortable and convenient.
There’s another very important reason not to keep putting off that first conversation.
Orthodontic treatment is about more than straight teeth. Proper alignment can improve the way your teeth come together, make them easier to care for and help create a healthy foundation that benefits you for years. If you know me, you’ll also know the premium I put on confidence. I’ve seen what happens when someone who used to hide their smile suddenly can’t stop showing it off.
That’s one of the best parts of what we do, so if you’ve been wondering whether it’s time for your child to see an orthodontist, ask. If you’re an adult who has thought about improving your own smile for years, ask.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you start. Just remember, when you’re ready, we’re ready.
