Is Your Vehicle Ready for Winter?

Winter is just around the corner, and with it comes snow, freezing rain and icy roads across SD&G. Before the temperatures drop and the first snowfall arrives, now is the perfect time to make sure your vehicle is ready for the road ahead.

Why do winter tires matter? Winter tires are more than just tires with a different tread pattern. They are specifically designed to handle cold temperatures, snow and ice. Unlike all-season tires, which can become harder and lose grip in colder weather, winter tires use a specialized rubber compound that stays flexible, helping them maintain better contact with the road.

Their unique tread designs and small biting edges help grip snowy and slippery surfaces, improve traction and provide better control when accelerating, turning and braking. When roads become icy or covered in slush, that extra grip can make an important difference in helping you stay in control and stop safely.

Even if your vehicle has all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, winter tires are still essential. These systems help your vehicle get moving, but they cannot replace the traction needed to brake and turn safely. Four good winter tires help provide balanced handling and better control in challenging conditions.

A good rule of thumb is to consider installing your winter tires when temperatures consistently drop to around 7°C or lower. Booking early also helps you avoid the last-minute rush when the first snowfall catches everyone by surprise!

Already have winter tires? Have them checked for tread depth, uneven wear, cracks and damage to make sure they are ready for another season.
