Fresh Starts, Support and Renewal in the Performing Arts

Back to Articles

January has always been my favorite month—not because it’s quiet after the holidays, but because it crackles with possibility. There is something sacred about the clean slate of a new year, the pause between what has been and what could be. In the performing arts, we live in that space every day. Each time the lights rise, we begin again. Every rehearsal, every warm-up, every breath is a fresh start.

Here in the Flathead Valley, our community holds that same resilient spirit. We lift each other up, celebrate each other’s dreams, and show up—whether it’s for a local performance, a child’s first dance class, or a neighbor’s creative project. Support is the backbone of art, and art is the heartbeat of community.

As a performer, educator, and mentor, I have seen firsthand what renewal looks like. It’s the 10-year-old who walks into a Broadway dance class shy and uncertain, then leaves an hour later glowing with confidence. It’s the adult who hasn’t stepped into a studio in 20 years, rediscovering joy and expression in their own body. It’s the parent who sits in the audience with tears in their eyes as they watch their child take center stage for the very first time.

The performing arts remind us that renewal isn’t just for the young—it’s for anyone willing to try something new.

Fresh starts don’t have to be dramatic. They can be simple, intentional steps toward strengthening your sense of self. Support often looks like saying “yes” when it would be easier to say, “maybe later.” Renewal can be as subtle as allowing yourself to remember what lights you up.

As we step into 2026, I encourage you to tap into that sense of possibility—whether you’re a seasoned performer, a behind-the-scenes enthusiast, or someone who has always wanted to explore the arts but never knew where to begin.

This year, I am thrilled to offer Broadway Master Classes for both kids and adults, right here in Whitefish. These classes are designed to nurture confidence, creativity, and community. Students will train in dance, singing, and acting while learning how to connect authentically to storytelling and performance. For kids ages 10–18, it’s a powerful way to build discipline, artistry, and self-belief. For adults, it’s the perfect opportunity to rekindle a passion you may have set aside—no experience required, just a willingness to show up.

Whether you join us in the studio, attend a local show, pick up a new creative hobby, or simply cheer on someone who is brave enough to try, you are participating in something meaningful. You are investing in art, connection, and renewal.

This January, I invite you to claim a fresh start of your own. Step into something that scares you a little. Support someone else in doing the same. And allow your spirit to be renewed by the magic that happens when community and creativity come together.

Try something new. Leap toward what excites you. And if Broadway Master Classes call to you — your stage is waiting.
