How Eyewear Is Changing in 2026: Medical Advances for Kids + Smart Tech for Adults

Eyewear technology is evolving quickly, and 2026 is shaping up to be an exciting year for new smart glasses for adults and medical myopia control lenses for kids. Glasses are no longer only for correcting vision. Many new styles can include artificial intelligence, built in sound, and hands free cameras. At the same time, children who are becoming nearsighted can now use real treatments that help slow how fast their prescriptions get stronger.

At Porter Ranch Optometry, our goal is to offer the newest solutions and explain them clearly to families in the community. Two major trends currently define the most advanced era of eyewear: smart wearable technology for adults and medical myopia management for children. These two categories serve very different purposes, but both highlight how fast the field is changing.

Smart AI Glasses:

Ray Ban | Meta

Porter Ranch Optometry is proud to be an authorized Ray Ban | Meta dealer. Ray Ban worked with Meta to add smart features to classic frame styles, including the crowd favorite Wayfarer. These glasses can take crisp 12 megapixel photos and record smooth video directly from the wearer’s point of view. The open audio speakers deliver music, calls, or directions while keeping ears uncovered for all day comfort and awareness. Most notably, the glasses include Meta AI, allowing users to speak naturally to an assistant for answers, reminders, translations, or messaging help.

To avoid confusion, these smart glasses do not treat vision problems or slow prescription changes. They are not a form of vision therapy. They are wearable tech designed for convenience, connection, and capturing real life moments. For patients who want smart features without losing clear eyesight, the frames can be made with prescription lenses. This means you can still see sharply while enjoying AI tools, calls, photos, videos, and music directly through your glasses.

Oakley | Meta

Adults who enjoy movement, sports, and time outdoors often ask for something designed with performance in mind. Oakley’s collaboration with Meta brings smart functionality into athletic frame designs. These glasses are lightweight, durable, and comfortable for long walks, hikes, or workouts. They also include open audio and a built in camera for hands free use. Depending on the model, select versions can pair with certain fitness devices like compatible Garmin watches to provide activity based audio cues along with AI interaction.

Again, these glasses do not monitor, slow, or correct vision changes. Their purpose is to make technology easier to wear in your daily life without blocking environmental awareness.

Medical Myopia Control for Children

Essilor® Stellest® Prescription Lenses for Glasses:

Essilor® Stellest® lenses are the first and only FDA market authorized spectacle lens to slow the progression of nearsightedness in children. Stellest lenses take everyday eyeglasses a step further. They look like a standard prescription lens, but with a unique optical design. They include a clear central viewing zone surrounded by a gentle ring of micro segments that help create controlled peripheral defocus. This helps reduce further eye elongation. Clinical studies show these lenses slow prescription worsening significantly when worn for twelve or more hours daily. Most children adapt quickly and comfortably within a few days. No special training or long adjustment process is typically needed.

CooperVision MiSight 1 Day Contact Lenses:

MiSight is the first FDA approved soft daily disposable contact lens proven to slow the progression of myopia in children when treatment begins between ages eight and twelve. These lenses both correct blurry distance vision and use a dual focus optical design that sends a signal to the eye to slow excessive eye growth, the primary cause of worsening nearsightedness. Because the lenses are brand new each morning and discarded at night, they provide a cleaner and simpler option for families who want added safety and convenience.

Porter Ranch Optometry is proud to bring these tools to our community. Vision care is becoming smarter, cleaner, and more personalized. We’re excited to continue leading that progress for families of all ages.
