New Year, New You! Healing Pain and Restoring Possibility Through Myofascial Release
As we enter 2026, many of us are setting intentions or making resolutions for the new year, which may include goals to move more, lose weight, feel better, reduce stress, get stronger, and return to the activities we love. But when pain, stiffness, fatigue, or emotional overwhelm are weighing heavily on the body, even the best intentions can feel out of reach.
If you are tired of feeling restricted, exhausted from “just pushing through,” or discouraged by temporary solutions that don’t last, there is another way.
Right here in Bremer County, Wolffpack Wellness Myofascial Release offers an approach to healing that is gentle, powerful, and designed to address the root cause of pain and dysfunction, not just the surface symptoms.
What Is Fascia—and Why Does It Matter?
Fascia is the body’s most overlooked system, yet it is one of the most impactful. It is a continuous web of connective tissue that surrounds and interpenetrates every muscle, bone, nerve, blood vessel, gland, organ, and cell. Think of it as a supportive, fluid, three-dimensional network that gives your body structure and allows everything to glide and function smoothly.
When fascia is healthy, it is supple, elastic, and responsive, allowing free movement, circulation, and communication throughout the body.
But when fascia becomes restricted due to physical trauma, surgery, inflammation, repetitive stress, emotional holding patterns, or chronic stress, it can tighten like a rigid internal cast. These restrictions can create excessive pressure on pain-sensitive structures. This can lead to:
- Chronic pain
- Limited mobility
- Numbness or tingling
- Headaches and migraines
- Back, neck, and shoulder pain
- Pelvic or abdominal pain
- Fibromyalgia, TMJ, scoliosis
- Nervous system dysregulation
- Fatigue and tension
- Symptoms without clear medical explanation (“unexplained pain”)
Traditional therapies often just treat individual structures and symptoms, but unless the entire body and fascial restrictions are addressed, relief tends to be temporary.
John F. Barnes Myofascial Release®: A Different Approach to Healing
At Wolffpack Wellness Myofascial Release, I use the highly respected John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach®, a gentle hands-on technique that allows the fascial system to soften, melt, and release. By applying sustained pressure, which never forces or is aggressive, this work allows the body to shift out of survival mode and into a state of true healing.
Clients often describe the experience as deeply calming, opening, or transformative—physically, emotionally, and energetically. Tight, solidified tissue begins to respond like butter softening or warm taffy stretching, relieving pressure from nerves, muscles, joints, and organs, and restoring the normal fluidity and glide/slide function of the fascial system.
Range of motion returns.
Pain decreases.
The nervous system relaxes.
The body reorganizes itself into balance, coherence, and fluidity. The body’s ability to self heal and self regulate returns.
How I Support Clients in Waverly and Surrounding Communities
My role is to help guide the body toward its natural ability to heal, one of the main Osteopathic philosophies. Sessions are personalized and integrate mindful awareness, body connection, and therapeutic presence. Each session may look a little different from the previous, as I don’t follow any recipes or protocols, and each session includes reassessment and treatment of what is found that particular day. Many clients come to me after months or years of trying everything else— physical therapy, chiropractic, massage, medication, injections, or surgery—and finally experience relief and whole-body change that lasts.
Common questions new clients ask:
“What happens in a session?”
I begin by listening to your story, exploring the patterns in your body, and identifying the root restrictions. Then we work gently and slowly, giving your body the time it needs to soften and release from within. We focus on deep breathing and bringing full awareness into the body, using mindfulness techniques to stay anchored in the present moment and focused on the treatment.
“Is it painful?”
No. I work within your limits but may nudge you to the edge of your comfort zone, but this treatment NEVER INJURES. You may feel sensations of discomfort, lengthening, warmth, pulsing, melting, unwinding, buzzing, tingling, or even emotional release, but never aggressive pressure. You always reserve the right to tell me to “ease up a bit”, if needed. This is never a “no pain, no gain” situation.
“How quickly will I notice a difference?”
Many people feel some changes and relief after their first session, while chronic conditions can take time to unwind. Healing is never linear, like we would like it to be, but authentic healing can be powerful and can occur in quantum shifts. Sometimes, things get a little worse before they get better, this is still progress! Treatment plans are available to set up and are usually needed for long standing chronic conditions. BUT, you may start noticing changes within a few sessions.
“Is this right for me?”
If you have pain, tension, limited movement, or feel stuck—physically or emotionally—this work can help. We all have a fascial system and we all have had injuries, traumas, sports injuries, motor vehicle accidents, falls, sprains/strains, inflammation, infections, surgeries and we all live and work and play in sustained postures and with repetitive motions.
ALL OF THESE THINGS can create fascial restrictions that continue to add up until the body can no longer compensate.
