South Shore YMCA Begins 2026 with New Leadership and Bold Strategic Vision

The South Shore YMCA begins the new year with exciting leadership news: Trevor Williams has been appointed President and CEO, effective January 2026. Williams succeeds Paul Gorman, who led the organization for 16 years and leaves behind a legacy of growth and community impact.

Williams brings more than three decades of experience in health and wellness, including 20 years within the YMCA movement. Since joining the South Shore Y as Chief Operating Officer in 2020, he has helped the organization navigate the challenges of the pandemic, revitalize facilities, and expand services. “I know I have big shoes to fill, but I am excited to continue working with our volunteer Board and talented team to bring our exciting future to life,” said Williams.

That future is outlined in the Y’s new 2026–2028 Strategic Plan: Together We Thrive, a roadmap designed to strengthen community and elevate member experience. The plan focuses on five key pillars:

  • Expand youth, teen & family programming
  • Increase impact & visibility of medical wellness programs
  • Elevate member experience and community connection
  • Prioritize staff retention through workforce development
  • Optimize facilities and infrastructure to better serve the community

For Williams, the timing couldn’t be better.  “January isn’t just the first month of the year, it’s a mindset,” he said. “It’s when routines reset, wellness becomes a priority, and people reconnect with what matters most. It’s our most exciting time each year.”

As the Y moves forward with Together We Thrive, its vision is clear: to remain a leading nonprofit dedicated to building stronger, healthier, more connected communities. Guided by its Affordability and Accessibility Pledge, the South Shore YMCA is committed to ensuring that every individual has access to the resources, opportunities, and support they need to thrive, with financial assistance and flexible pricing so everyone can truly belong.
