Change a Child’s Story: The Vital Role of a CASA Volunteer

In the complex world of the foster care system, many children find themselves navigating courtrooms, new schools, and unfamiliar homes without a constant presence. For these vulnerable children, a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer often serves as the primary constant in their lives.

CASA of North Mississippi is currently searching for dedicated Lee County individuals with a heart for service and a desire to help our most vulnerable children.

The Impact of Advocacy

A CASA volunteer’s role is multi-faceted, focusing entirely on the child’s well-being and future. These specialized advocates ensure that no child gets lost in the legal system.

  • Personal Connection: Volunteers visit with their assigned child regularly to build a meaningful, trusting relationship.
  • Resource Coordination: Advocates work to identify and provide necessary resources to help the child succeed.
  • A Voice in the Courtroom: CASA volunteers speak up for the child’s best interests during legal proceedings, providing judges with a clear picture of the child’s needs.

2026 Lee County Training Calendar

If you feel called to this mission, CASA provides comprehensive training to prepare you for advocacy. All Lee County sessions are held at 352 N. Spring St., Tupelo, MS on Mondays from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM.

Upcoming Training Dates:

  • Spring Session: April 13 – May 11
  • Late Summer Session: Aug. 24 – Sept. 28 (Skips Labor Day)
  • Winter Session: Nov. 2 – Nov. 30

Why I Serve: A Volunteer Perspective

“Every child deserves a champion—an adult who will never give up on them,” is a common sentiment among those who wear the CASA badge.

“Volunteering with CASA has changed how I look at everyone. It’s taught me the importance of human connection… I’m developing advocacy skills that I now use in my own life.”
