Enrichment Activities For Your Dog’s Best Life!

Bay Area Pet Resort, under new ownership since January 2024, has been looking for a way to provide a more individualized experience to the pups in our care. What better way to personalize each stay than to boost it with enrichment. When we talk about enrichment, what do we actually mean? Enrichment is an activity that improves an animal’s physical, mental and emotional well-being by encouraging and rewarding natural behaviors. For your animal, this means introducing them to mini games/challenges that let them sniff, chase, dig, herd, chew, and problem solve! This basically gives your dog the chance to well, BE A DOG!

Starting February 1st, we presented our “Play and Perks Package” to our facility. This package includes a themed monthly storyline with 8 included mini enrichment games for your pup to explore with our Daycare Coordinator. Are you worried that your pup may not be as physically active anymore? Worried they aren’t food motivated enough? More reserved? Not a worry, we are using The 5 Pillars of Enrichment to ensure that every dog has a niche in our storyline!

“What are Pillars of Enrichment?” They are five pillars that allow your dog to fulfill what nature intended for them. The Physical Enrichment Pillar encases activities that get each dog moving. These are games like fetch, agility courses or even tug of war. The Intellectual Enrichment Pillar engages each dog’s brain by using things like puzzle feeders, scent work, or truly anything that gets them thinking. The Social Enrichment Pillar helps dogs be the social “pack” like animals that they are. These games will provide your dog with 1-1 time with the staff on site. The Sensory Enrichment Pillar activates the senses, specifically their most important one, their nose! These games will showcase scent work, different textures to explore, or even playing with different sounds. The Environmental Enrichment Pillar involves changing up their space! We plan to do this with new toys, obstacles, and shifting things around in the space to keep things fresh and exciting!

The Team at Bay Area Pet Resort could not be any more excited about this big step in bettering the experience for the clients and pups at the resort! We know that incorporating enrichment into our daycare and boarding programs is the best call and we can’t wait to get started with each of you!!
