Living the Dream, Not Just Remembering It

This is a reflection on something felt to be a concern to some. Once a year you see post after post for Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., it’s all good. Thank you for your support. Some people think that Rev. Dr. King had a movement just for people of color. He fought for us and for many others who were at a disadvantage when it comes to success according to society.  He fought to help women’s rights and to help people in poverty, that crosses the boundaries of color.

We should have spent that day thinking about whether we are continuing to help with any of his dreams or are we impeding them. Do we give opportunities to everyone? Do we give support to everyone? Pretending one time a year and going back to your old ways is not fighting for continuous change, some people can see right through that.

As we are living in a world that is supposed to be about everyone having an opportunity, we need to step back and reflect. Are we really going forward? Are we really wanting everyone to do and be better? Again, are we denying opportunities to those who are sincere about helping to make this world a better place for all people? If you are helping, I applaud you. If you are hindering, please think about what you can do and try to change.

I pray everyone has a heart for a more positive, peaceful change for everyone in this world. We should continually think about how we can make a change for the betterment of all people, have a conversation and act, not just on Dr. King’s appointed day, but always.  Rev. Dr. King’s “Dream” is a never-ending journey. He did not want things to go backwards. Don’t speak without action to back them up. There is still a lot of work to do. Do your part.

We just ended the month of February, deemed “Black History Month” (originally “Negro History Week), no one should just recognize what Dr. King stood for. People should take the time to study more about a history that some fail to accept and want to delete. Without that History, we as a country would not be where it is today.

Prayer, love, unity, compassion, empathy, communication with truth is what we need more of. We must come together as we were created to try to make things better for everyone.  What is your choice today? How will it affect our future?
