Spring Travel Planning: What Smart Travelers Are Booking Now

March is one of the most important, and overlooked, months in the travel calendar. While many people assume travel planning happens once summer arrives, experienced travelers know that spring is when the smartest decisions are made. From better pricing to wider availability and more flexibility, March offers a strategic advantage for those looking ahead.

As a travel advisor, I see patterns forming long before they become obvious. Right now, the most sought-after summer and fall travel options are already filling quickly.

Alaska cruises, European itineraries, and family-friendly all-inclusive resorts are seeing limited availability. This is especially true  for preferred room categories and sail dates. Waiting doesn’t usually lead to better deals; it often means fewer choices and higher prices.

One of the biggest misconceptions travelers have is that planning early locks them into rigid plans. In reality, many suppliers offer flexible deposit schedules and cancellation policies when bookings are made in advance. Planning early allows travelers to secure ideal options while still maintaining flexibility as schedules evolve.

Another trend I’m seeing is travelers shifting their focus from “finding the cheapest option” to finding the right option. Travelers want trips that fit their travel style, energy level, and priorities. Whether that’s adventure, relaxation, culture, or connection. This kind of thoughtful planning takes time, and March is the perfect moment to start.

Spring planning is also when travelers can maximize value. Popular destinations don’t discount peak travel dates once demand rises. Instead, early planners benefit from introductory pricing, promotional perks, and access to inventory that later disappears entirely. By the time summer approaches, travelers who waited are often choosing from what’s left, rather than what’s best.

Working with a travel advisor during this phase can be especially valuable. Beyond booking logistics, an advisor helps travelers think strategically; about timing, pacing, travel companions, and even future trips. Planning isn’t just about the next vacation; it’s about creating travel experiences that fit seamlessly into your life.

The takeaway is simple: March is not too early… it’s right on time. Travelers who plan now enjoy more choices, less stress, and trips that feel intentional rather than rushed. Whether you’re dreaming about summer adventures or thinking ahead to the year beyond, spring is where great travel begins.
