Dental Habits That Can Save You Money

Back to Articles

Many people find themselves avoiding the dentist because they are worried about costs – but the truth is, a few simple daily habits can help prevent expensive dental problems down the road. Here are five dentist-approved habits that protect both your smile AND your wallet:

  1. Practice Proper Oral Hygiene

Brushing for two minutes, twice daily with toothpaste removes plaque before it causes cavities or gum disease. Flossing removes plaque from areas your toothbrush can’t reach. Rushing or skipping either may seem harmless, but it often leads to fillings, crowns or worse.

  1. Don’t Skip Regular Checkups

Routine cleanings and exams help catch problems, like tooth sensitivity, bleeding gums or discomfort, early – when the issues are smaller, easier and less costly to fix.

  1. Protect Your Teeth

Whether it’s night time clenching/grinding or playing games in sports leagues, wearing a mouthguard can prevent broken or knocked-out teeth – some of the most expensive dental emergencies.

Bottom line: A little prevention goes a long way – and it’s one of the best investments you can make in your health.
