Scout Troop 978 Pasta Dinner a Hit!

The boys and girls of Scout Troop 978 recently hosted their annual “All You Can Eat” pasta and meatball dinner at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Hundreds of folks turned out in the gymnasium to show their support for the Scouts and share a meal and some friendship and fellowship.

The proceeds from the dinner help the Troop purchase/replace camping equipment and pay for multiple activities throughout the year!  Thanks to the dozens of businesses who donated food for the dinner or items for the Troop’s raffles.  A special acknowledgement to Tony’s Deli, Dino’s Restaurant, Tavern on the Point, Spuntino’s, Nonna Silvia’s, the Sicilian Bakery, DiMaggio Café, and especially Grecco and Son Italian Food Service distributors for donating and allowing the Scouts to understand the value of service and hard work!   Thanks again for the community’s FAN-tastic support!

As the weather warms up, I encourage everyone to check out a local pancake breakfast, fish fry, or pasta dinner.  It is such a great way to feel the vibrancy of the community and a simple way to support really great volunteer organizations (and cost wise – it’s a great bargain).

Scout Open House—Have your child get more Green Time and less Screen Time.

Scout Troop 978 will be hosting an Open House on April 30th from 7:15PM to 8:45PM in the St. Paul Lutheran Church Gymnasium, 5650 N Canfield Rd (near the corner of Bryn Mawr and Canfield).  Learn about all our great upcoming activities, camping trips, Memorial Day Parade, Pinewood Derby, and our weeklong Summer Camp at Owasippe Scout Reservation, or our trip to the Illinois State Fair. Yes, of course we still tie knots!

The Troop has also donated hundreds of service hours in the last calendar year.  The Scouts have constructed and painted/stained planters, tables and benches at Stock School, Onahan School, Ebinger School, and Resurrection Living Village.  We also cleaned and raised and reset headstones for veterans at Union Ridge Cemetery.  Scouting America is a great organization that teaches true life skills and self reliance.  Please come and check us out or visit www.Troop978.com or on Facebook at Troop 978 Chicago.
