There are a lot of fun times in May, starting with Mother’s Day. Here at the Circle, we have plenty of great ideas to spoil mom—beginning with some bubbly.
We suggest Laurent Perrier Brut NV, which is elegant and refreshing, with citrus and almond notes, and is best enjoyed with shrimp and crab cakes. We are also big fans of Vilarnau Cava from Spain. Made in the traditional champagne method, this wine is dry and more serious. Finally, you can never go wrong with prosecco, and we have dozens to choose from, especially the ultimate crowd pleaser: Brilla Prosecco Extra Dry.
Rosé All Day
Another option to pair with a floral bouquet for mom is rosé. We recommend Hampton Water from the South of France; this brand is owned by the Bon Jovi family. We are also enjoying the La Bernarde Provence Rose that just arrived. It offers lovely strawberry and raspberry fruit flavors with a crisp, fresh finish—a classic Provence rosé. A wonderful value from South Africa, Beach House rosé offers flavors of strawberry, watermelon, and citrus—dry, bright, and refreshing with a crisp finish.
Red or White is Always Right
If Mom prefers red, she may enjoy a Pinot Noir with some salmon on Sunday. We suggest Fiancetto Pinot Noir, Redwood Ridge Sonoma Coast. This single-vineyard red has flavors of cherry and raspberry, with pleasant earthiness. Another great value in Pinot is Butternut Pinot Noir, offering friendly cherry and strawberry aromas and flavors.
A few white wine choices include The Optimist Sauvignon Blanc from Daou Vineyards in Paso Robles, which has citrus and tropical fruit notes with crisp acidity, perfect with apps or poultry and seafood dishes. We also like King Estate Pinot Gris from Oregon. This Willamette Valley white offers a flavor profile of pear, green apple, and citrus, with a mineral backbone that creates a refreshing, balanced wine.
