As the Collier County Supervisor of Elections offices prepares for the 2026 Elections, we are reminding voters that casting a ballot is more than a civic duty; it is a way to honor the men and women who served to protect the freedoms that are fundamental to our country, including the right to vote.
May is National Military Appreciation Month, and to commemorate the important military holidays, such as Armed Services Day on May 16 and Memorial Day on May 25, our office is currently accepting nominations of veterans or current service members to honor their sacrifices and remind our community of the freedoms granted and protected by those who serve.
The Vote in Honor of a Veteran program highlights the powerful connection between those who have served our country and civic engagement. Over 250 veterans and current servicemen and women are honored through the program, and community members can submit a veteran to honor through the Supervisor of Elections’ website at CollierVotes.gov/VETERAN. Each submission helps grow a collection of local stories that celebrate service while inspiring others to take part in the democratic process. Whether the honoree is a family member, friend, neighbor, or yourself, each veteran honored in this program reflects a deep appreciation for their service.
As voters head to the polls in 2026, the Supervisor of Elections office encourages residents to reflect on the connection between service and civic participation. Being active in elections is one of the most important ways citizens can honor the legacy of those who fought to protect our rights. The simple act of casting your ballot can serve as a powerful tribute to the courage and dedication of our nation’s veterans. The next time you vote, Vote in Honor of a Veteran.
