Life in Wasatch County Feels Like a Never-Ending Getaway

Back to Articles

Living in Wasatch County often feels like being on vacation year-round. With endless outdoor adventures right outside our doors, there’s always something to look forward to. Winter brings world-class skiing, “The Greatest Snow on Earth.” And while many locals live for powder days, I’ll admit I’m happiest when the snow melts and the sunshine sticks around. Now that the days are getting longer and warmer, it’s the perfect time to head outside and explore everything our backyard has to offer.

Adventure Season is Here

When spring and summer arrive, we’re ready to fire things up and hit the trails, dunes, and lakes. ATVs, dirt bikes, golf carts, dune  buggies, and boats all come out of storage as we plan long weekends and unforgettable adventures. Owning recreational vehicles is a blast—but it also comes with responsibility. One of the biggest misconceptions we see is the belief that homeowners’ or auto insurance automatically covers recreational vehicles. In many cases, that coverage simply isn’t there.

Understanding Your Recreational Vehicles

ATVs and UTVs (Side-by-Sides) – ATVs and UTVs are popular in Wasatch County for both work and play. ATVs are typically smaller and designed for solo riders, while UTVs offer side-by-side seating and extra cargo space. Because of how and where they’re used, properly insuring them is essential.

Golf Carts – Golf carts aren’t just for the course anymore. Many are used in neighborhoods, gated communities, or designated low-speed zones. Street-legal golf carts often require liability insurance and even those used solely on private property should be covered to protect against theft, damage, or accidents.

Dune Buggies & Sand Rails – With their open design and off-road capabilities, dune buggies and sand rails face a higher risk of rollovers, mechanical issues, and theft. Comprehensive insurance is a smart way to protect both the vehicle and your wallet.

Boats & Personal Watercraft (PWCs) – Whether you’re cruising in a fishing boat or zipping across the water on a Jet Ski, Sea-Doo, or WaveRunner, boating brings incredible fun…and unique insurance needs. Watercraft come with their own set of risks, making the right coverage especially important.

Boat & PWC Insurance Should Include:

  • Liability Coverage – Protects you if you cause injury or damage to others
  • Hull Coverage – Covers physical damage to your boat or personal watercraft
  • Fuel Spill Liability – Helps cover cleanup costs after an accidental fuel spill
  • Towing & Assistance – Covers emergency towing and breakdown services
  • Uninsured/Underinsured Boater Coverage – Protects you if you’re hit by a boater without adequate insurance

Comprehensive and collision coverage can also help protect against theft, accidents, and natural disasters—ensuring your investment is  safeguarded both on and off the water.

Don’t Forget About Trailers & Transport

When planning your adventures, it’s easy to focus on the fun part and forget how you’re getting your gear there. Trailers are just as  important to insure as the vehicles they carry.

Here’s what to keep in mind:

  • Liability Coverage – Most auto policies only provide liability coverage for trailers while they’re hitched to an insured vehicle
  • Unhitched Trailers May Not Be Covered – Once unhooked, many trailers aren’t covered at all without a separate policy
  • Comprehensive & Collision Coverage – Protects against theft, vandalism, weather damage, fire, and accidents
  • Roadside Assistance – Helps with breakdowns, flat tires, or transport issues before they derail your trip

If a trailer is damaged or stolen while unhitched, proper coverage could save you thousands. Reviewing trailer insurance ahead of time helps ensure your plans stay on track.
