What Are Your Options?

Traditional methods such as waxing and sugaring remain widely used. While they provide immediate results, they are temporary and often uncomfortable. Because they do not affect the hair follicle, regrowth is inevitable.

Electrolysis can offer permanent results and is especially useful for white or very light hair that cannot be treated with laser. However, it is time-intensive, operator-dependent, and less practical for larger treatment areas.

How Laser Hair Removal Works

Laser stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. It uses a precise wavelength of light to target pigment (melanin) in the hair follicle. The absorbed energy converts to heat, damaging the follicle and significantly reducing future hair growth.

Hair grows in cycles, and laser treatment is only effective during the anagen (active growth) phase, when the follicle is attached to its root. Because not all hairs are in this phase at the same time, treatments are spaced several weeks apart to progressively reduce hair density.

Many patients experience up to 80–90% long-term hair reduction after a complete treatment series, along with smoother skin and fewer ingrown hairs.

Types of Technologies

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL):

Uses a broad spectrum of light. While versatile, it is less targeted than medical-grade lasers and may produce less consistent results.

Diode Laser:

Effective in certain cases but more limited in versatility, particularly for lighter hair or darker skin tones.

Alexandrite & Nd:YAG Combination Lasers:

Considered the gold standard in laser hair removal. Alexandrite is highly effective for lighter skin and finer hair, while Nd:YAG is safer for darker or tanned skin. Combined technologies allow for customized, efficient, and faster treatments with improved comfort.

An added advantage of Nd:YAG technology is its strong absorption in hemoglobin, allowing safe and rapid treatment of superficial blood vessels, improving overall skin appearance.

Key Considerations for Patients

  • A mild sensation is normal. Effective treatment typically produces a brief heat or snapping feeling. Completely pain-free treatments may indicate insufficient energy delivery.
  • Visible reduction should occur early. Most patients notice improvement within the first few sessions.
  • Expertise matters. Proper technique and medical-grade equipment are essential for safe, optimal outcomes.
  • Maintenance is part of the process. New hair growth can occur over time, so occasional treatments (once or twice per year) may be required.
