Now is the perfect time to refresh your home with some spring cleaning. When it comes to your floors, using the right method matters. Many homeowners unknowingly use harsh products or too much moisture, ultimately causing more harm than good. If you want to extend the life of your investment, then you need to know what products to use and the right application.
Less is more. Different flooring types require different cleaners, but one rule applies across the board: don’t overdo it. With hardwood floors, do not use excess water or steam mops. Too much moisture can lead to warping. We typically recommend Bona Hardwood Cleaner for our customers. If you have Luxury Vinyl or Laminate floors, it’s important to avoid anything too abrasive that will dull the finish. Our go-to cleaner is Once N’ Done. It doesn’t need to be rinsed and is gentle enough not to cause damage.
You can even use Once N’ Done with porcelain, ceramic, and stone floors. It will not strip the finish or damage the grout lines. And don’t forget about your carpet. To uphold the carpet’s warranty, it should be professionally cleaned every 12-18 months (and keep your receipts). We recommend Tudor Services for a good professional carpet cleaning.
Springtime also means more muddy foot traffic. Protecting your high-traffic area from Kids, pets, and dirty shoes will help extend the life of the floor and make cleaning easier.
Your first line of defense starts at the door. A heavy-duty outdoor mat that has some texture is a good start. Inside the door, a washable entry mat or runner will be a great next line of defense. With pets, wipe their paws before they get too far into the house. If space allows, create a drop-off zone with a designated area to put shoes. These small changes can make a big difference in extending the life of your floors and lightening your cleaning chores.
