Spring is Here in the Kingston Area

In May, we have fully emerged from our caves. This is that precious time between complaining about the cold and complaining about the heat. It’s the time of year in which our utility bills don’t feel quite so soul-crushing. Proms, graduations, and summer vacation are on the horizon. We are arguably our best selves in the spring. From a real estate perspective, the market is near or at its yearly apex from an activity standpoint. Some are watching their winter preparations come to fruition. Others, hampered by fallout from a tumultuous winter, are now joining the fray. Lately, buyers have been out in force, and multiple offers are becoming a more regular occurrence.

I love to talk real estate all day. It’s been my career thus far, so I suppose I had better love it. With that being said, I would like to take a slightly different tack in this month’s column. In the spirit of spring and human beings coming together as part of a community, I would like to use this space to highlight one of my favorite destinations in town.

Keegan’s Kreations – Please allow me to set the stage… I have people in my family who cannot ingest gluten. Luckily, much of the world has managed to catch up with the growing number of people who can’t eat gluten, as options at eateries have become more plentiful. Though gluten-free food has improved, a lot of it still tastes like a box from Amazon. Since I stand in solidarity with my family and happen to live in the same house, I am also gluten-free. After all, what kind of monster would I have to be to sit there in front of my family and eat an entire loaf of bread while they look on enviously? Since I sit shoulder to shoulder with them in this lifestyle, I watch as tasty cakes and gourmet pizza pass me by on a daily basis.

Keegan’s Kreations has figured out a way to soothe the pastry-loving beast inside of me. The gluten-free raspberry chocolate muffin is simply divine. You would never know that this gourmet delicacy was free of gluten. As a matter of fact… you don’t notice anything at all because you’ve been warmly embraced in a blanket of fruit, chocolate, and pure bliss. I tried not to love it with my whole heart, but resistance was indeed futile. Sunday is game day for me. I’m out in these streets doing open houses and showing buyers prospective homes. I used to wake up and focus strictly on work. I wake up a little earlier now because I simply have to have these muffins and bring them home to the family.

Flourless chocolate cake… it’s the one gluten-free dessert that every restaurant has. I’ll be honest… it’s pretty “meh” at most places… but not at Keegan’s. It’s rich and delectable. The triple chocolate cake is refined and decadent. Before I had these delicious cakes, I merely existed… now I’m LIVING.

A cynic may say, “Doug… your love for these items runs so deeply. Why would you reveal them to the entire community? There may be a Sunday where Keegan’s is all out of delicious gluten-free raspberry chocolate chip muffins because you told everyone about them in your column, and then you don’t get one.” To the cynic I say this: that is a price I’m willing to pay. I know that Keegan’s will make more muffins to keep up with demand. Keegan’s Kreations will prosper, more people will have the muffins sans gluten, and we will all be a little healthier, happier, and full of delicious muffins.

A rising tide raises all boats, my friends. As May flowers bloom, so too shall our community, one muffin at a time. If you know anyone looking to make the move to a wondrous community where the muffins aren’t hoarded, I am here to help.

Happy Spring, Kingstonians.
