Summit Township Lakes: Where Lake Life Meets Everyday Living

  • Copied!

There’s something about lake life that just hits different. The slower mornings, the evening
sunsets, the way everything feels a little more peaceful the second you’re near the water. And here’s the part people don’t always realize, you don’t have to drive “up north” to get it. People spend a lot of time talking about the lakes in The Irish Hills just south of Jackson, but don’t forget that right here in Summit Township, we have pockets of lake living that bring that same feeling! And just minutes from everything else in Jackson.

Vandercook Lake

If you’re picturing classic summer days, this is it. Vandercook Lake is one of the most accessible lakes in the area, thanks to the county park with a swim beach, boat launch, and space to spread out for the day. It has that community feel, where you’ll see families, kayaks, and neighbors who know each other.

Brown Lake

Now this one feels like a bit of a hidden pocket. Brown Lake connects to Vandercook Lake, but it has a softer, quieter presence. You won’t find the same level of public access here, which is exactly why some people love it. It leans more residential, more peaceful, more “sit on the dock and exhale.”

Lime Lake

Lime Lake is that perfect mix of peaceful and practical. You’ve got a county park with swimming and a boat launch, plus some of the best fishing variety in the area. But what really makes it special is how it connects to the Falling Waters Trail. You can literally bike or walk along the water, and it feels like a little escape built right into your daily routine. This is one of my son’s favorite places to sneak away to for fishing and swimming.

The Lifestyle Bonus: Falling Waters Trail

This is the part that ties it all together. The Falling Waters Trail runs right through this area,
giving you miles of paved path for biking, walking, or just clearing your head after a long day. It even crosses Lime Lake, which is one of those “wait…this is in Jackson?” kind of moments.
It’s not just a nice extra. It’s part of how people live here. Summit Township has this really
special balance. You can have lake views, trail access, and everyday convenience all in the
same place. It’s not loud. It’s not overdone. It just… works. And once people experience it, they tend to stay.
