Sun Health’s Warren D. Ruff Scholarship Fund provides over $200,000 each year in scholarship funds to nursing students and healthcare professionals
Applications are opening soon for Sun Health’s Warren D. Ruff Scholarship, which aims to bring an affordable education to aspiring healthcare professionals. The fund is available to current Sun Health, Banner Boswell, or Banner Del E. Webb employees pursuing an education in nursing or a nursing-related healthcare field. Current healthcare professionals seeking certification for career growth are also eligible. Established in 2020, the Warren D. Ruff Scholarship honors the legacy of beloved Sun Health community resident and member of the Sun Health Foundation Board of Trustees Warren D. Ruff, whose wish was to give back to the nursing community. The intent of the scholarship is to increase the number of trained nurses and healthcare providers who live and work in Arizona. In 2025, the Warren D. Ruff Scholarship provided a total of over $215,000 to recipients.
“More than ever, we need to support the growth of the West Valley, which is why we’re proud to partner with Sun Health and invest in the future of healthcare,” said Dr. Rey Rivera, Estrella Mountain Community College president and member of the Sun Health Services Board of Directors. “The Warren D. Ruff Scholarship helps make education affordable for those who care deeply about nursing.” Phoenix’s West Valley community has seen a significant rise in high-income households, major employers, and tourism. With a population now surpassing 1.8 million residents, the region has outpaced the national average in job and household growth, fueled by investments in healthcare, education, and advanced manufacturing. The scholarship’s fall cycle is open May 1 – 29, 2026. For application details, visit the Sun Health Foundation scholarship page at www.sunhealthfoundation.org/scholarships.
