The Growth of Beach Volleyball
Beach volleyball has evolved rapidly from a recreational pastime into a structured and competitive sport for both youth athletes and college programs. No longer limited to coastal regions, the game has expanded inland thanks to increased access to sand facilities, organized training, and clearer pathways for advancement. Organizations like USA Volleyball have helped standardize youth competition, while the sport’s fast pace and emphasis on all-around skill development continue to attract new players.
Youth Development and Opportunities
For young athletes, beach volleyball offers a unique developmental advantage. With only two players per team, each athlete must learn every aspect of the game—serving, passing, setting, hitting, and defense. This creates more well-rounded players compared to traditional indoor volleyball, where roles are more specialized. Youth leagues and club programs have grown significantly in recent years, giving players consistent opportunities to compete and improve. The sport’s inclusion in the 1996 Summer Olympics also boosted its visibility, inspiring the next generation to pursue it more seriously.
Expansion at the Collegiate Level
At the collegiate level, beach volleyball has seen especially strong growth. The NCAA recognized it as an official championship sport in 2016, prompting universities across the country to establish teams and invest in facilities. This has opened up new scholarship opportunities and expanded options for athletes who want to continue competing beyond high school. Importantly, colleges are increasingly recruiting players with beach experience because of their versatility and advanced ball control skills.
Centerline North Beach Volleyball (CNBV)
Starting this summer, CNBV will be offering structured youth leagues, camps, and clinics to all ages and levels. The structured youth leagues are a great way to introduce the sport in a fun, competitive environment while building foundational skills. Camps and clinics can take that development further, providing focused training on techniques specific to beach volleyball and preparing athletes for higher levels of play.

At Centerline North Beach Volleyball, we hope to create an atmosphere that is more than just a place to play–but a hub for growth, community, and opportunity. By offering leagues, camps, and skill development programs, our facility thrives to be a key contributor to the continued rise of beach volleyball, helping athletes of all ages take their next step in the sport.
