Veteran Services – Proudly Serving Those Who Served Us

Assisting Hands® is proud to partner with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as a provider within the Community Care Network (CCN). Through this partnership, we help ensure that eligible Veterans receive the support they need to remain safely and comfortably in their homes.

The VA Community Care Network offers supportive services to chronically ill or disabled Veterans of any age. These home care services are considered extended care and are prescribed and overseen by a VA physician. Veterans who qualify may receive professional home care services from a VA-approved agency, wherever they call home. This program is designed for individuals who require assistance with daily living activities, as well as those who may feel isolated or whose primary caregivers are experiencing strain.

Homemaker and Home Health Aide Services

A Homemaker or Home Health Aide is a trained professional who visits a Veteran’s home to assist with daily activities and personal care. While they are not nurses, they work under the supervision of a registered nurse who evaluates and monitors the Veteran’s needs. Services are customized based on individual assessments. To qualify, Veterans must receive a referral from their VA physician at their local VA clinic.

Examples of Services Include:

  • Personal care and grooming
  • Assistance with dressing
  • Bathing support
  • Help with toileting
  • Mobility assistance
  • Transportation to and from appointments
  • Meal preparation and eating assistance

No-Cost Care for Eligible Veterans

For qualifying Veterans, these essential home care services are provided completely free of charge, ensuring access to the support they deserve without financial burden. When exploring eligibility, you may need to provide basic information such as the Veteran’s name, date of birth, and Social Security number. VA representatives can help determine available benefits.

Choosing Your Care Provider

It is important to note that the VA may automatically assign a home care agency if no preference is stated. To avoid this, clearly communicate with your chosen agency when arranging services. Once a referral is submitted, Assisting Hands will coordinate with the Veteran and their family to establish a care plan. The agency will then deliver services and bill the VA directly on a weekly basis.
