Energy costs are already trending up. If that continues, this summer isn’t going to be cheap. Before the heat really shows up, there are a few things I’d look at now, because these are the same issues we end up seeing on service calls every year across Hunterdon County.
Windows
If the sun is hitting your house all afternoon, especially larger windows, your AC is already working harder than it should. Blinds or shades aren’t just for privacy, they actually help keep that heat out.
Air Leaks
Most homes have them. Around windows, doors, even small gaps you don’t think about. Once the AC is running daily, you’re losing cool air and pulling humidity in at the same time.
Attic Heat
If your attic is holding heat, it pushes right into the living space. We see plenty of systems that are running, but the house still won’t stay comfortable because of that.
Thermostat Settings
Dropping it way down doesn’t cool the house faster. It just keeps the system running longer and drives up your bill.
The System Itself
If it’s already struggling now, it’s not going to hold up when it’s 90 degrees out. Dirty coils, airflow issues, weak electrical components—we see it every season.
Most of the time, high energy bills aren’t just one problem, it’s a few small things adding up. If energy costs keep going the way they are, those small issues are going to show up fast once summer hits.
