At Bachman Community Center, the building and its grounds have always worked together as one welcoming space, where the line between indoors and outdoors gently fades.

Plans are underway for a thoughtful restroom addition designed by local architect Werner Slabber. The new space will connect seamlessly to both the grounds and the indoor areas through the breezeway. With this addition, restroom accessibility challenges, whether in mobility or caregiving, will soon be a thing of the past.

The new restroom will be fully ADA compliant, featuring family-accessible space and changing stations. A first aid station with an AED is planned in a central, easy-to-find spot.

This thoughtful addition will fit beautifully with the historic character of the old Nathan L.

Bachman Elementary building while opening the door to even more events and greater accessibility for all ages, allowing for longer stays, happier crowds, easier participation, and smoother experiences for seniors and anyone with mobility needs.

Early progress on the project has been supported by a grant through the Grandview Foundation. In addition, building-wide plumbing improvements, repairs, and upgraded electrical work have all been underway. The next phase will move into permitting and a broader community effort to carry it forward.
