Bachman kicks off the traditional Back to School season by participating in the 127 World’s Longest Yard Sale, where bargain hunters from across the country stop to see what treasures await. Then on Sunday, August 30, the thrift store takes center stage for its inaugural Thrifted Fashion Show, proving that great style doesn’t require a designer budget. Enjoy an afternoon featuring themed runway collections, shop the store’s regular departments plus special collections including the $5 Jewelry Bar and Mystery Bag Wall, plus sip and mingle with signature cocktails and light snacks. Equal parts fashion show, treasure hunt, and community celebration, it’s a fresh reminder that the best stories, and sometimes the best outfits, are waiting to be discovered at Bachman.
The 4th annual Rock the Ridge Festival on September 12 continues to grow into one of the Cumberland Plateau’s signature fall celebrations, bringing together conservation, recreation, music, and community for a day unlike any other. More than a festival, Rock the Ridge is a celebration of the landscapes that define Walden’s Ridge and a reminder that preserving them begins with appreciation. Interactive exhibits presented by environmental organizations and outdoor experts will be woven throughout the grounds alongside live entertainment, local food trucks, and family activities. The stage comes alive with music throughout the afternoon before the festival culminates with an evening headlining performance. Visitors can browse native plant vendors, join guided hikes, discover hands- on outdoor recreation demonstrations, and explore more exhibitors and experiences than ever before. Complimentary shuttles will keep the entire campus connected, allowing every corner of the grounds to fill with entertainment, education, and discovery. As the leaves turn and the evenings grow crisp, Bachman Community Center transforms into the Plateau’s home for Halloween fun. The Fa-BOO-lous Halloween Party returns on Friday, October 23, from 5 to 9 p.m., inviting families to wander a Halloween trail that is just spooky enough for little ghosts and goblins, while a brand-new frightful section offers just enough extra excitement so families don’t grow out of the fun. Whether you arrive in costume or simply come for the fun, the evening is filled with a lively treat trail, Halloween crafts, a mysterious live fortune teller, and the Boos & Brews concession stand serving seasonal favorites. The celebration continues with the Community Carve on Tuesday, October 27, where neighbors can stop in to carve a pumpkin to take home or contribute it to Bachman’s glowing pumpkin display, illuminating the front lawn each evening through Halloween. Round out the season with classic Halloween movies every Friday night in October, offering another reason to gather with family and friends throughout the month.
