Don’t forget these quick tips to keep you calm and collected when it comes to your medication this hurricane season:
1. Refill Early
Don’t wait until the storm is near. Refill prescriptions as soon as a storm is forecasted. Did you know most insurers allow early refills during declared emergencies? Check with your pharmacy or provider!
2. Keep a Medication List
Write down all your medications, dosages, prescribing doctors, and pharmacy contact info.
Include any over-the-counter medications, supplements, or medical equipment you use regularly.
3. Store Medications Properly
Keep meds in a cool, dry, waterproof container or resealable bag. If you use refrigerated medications (like insulin), have a cooler and ice packs ready in case of power loss.
4. Use Pill Organizers
Fill a week’s worth of pills in a travel-safe pill organizer so you don’t have to fumble with bottles during an evacuation.
5. Pack a Medical Go-Bag
Include an additional 7–14 days of medications, copies of prescriptions, and backup devices (inhalers, glucose monitors, etc.) along with your flashlight, batteries, etc.
6. Talk to Your Pharmacist
We always inform our customers of our emergency preparedness plans– your pharmacy should have one that includes how to access medications if they’re closed.
