At American Place Casino, we know the secret to a great guest experience starts with a supported and balanced team. Behind the scenes, many of our dedicated team members balance the high energy of the casino floor with the rewards and responsibilities of fatherhood.
In celebration of Father’s Day, we sat down with a few of the dads around the casino to discuss how they navigate the “jackpot” of family life. We asked our team for their advice and what it is like being a working father. Here’s what they had to say:
“My biggest success is being supportive of my kids and backing them up when they need it. Kids need room to grow into who they are, and knowing when to push them and when to help them navigate their future is important. My kids are 21 and 26, and I’m about to be a first time grand-father. I make sure to make choices with my own career to feel accomplished in my roles while still being the best dad I can be. My kids are my top priority. – David Turner, F&B Talent Manager
“Being a great father means leading with strength, love and having deep family values. Being a Latino father you have to work hard every day to provide for your children while teaching them respect, culture and pride in where they come from. I am a protector, a role model and a source of wisdom. I am a father, a leader, and a best friend.” – Joe Vasquez, Facilities Manager
“Nobody mentions this at your performance review: your job title means nothing to your kids. What matters to them is your presence, at their game, recital, or simply in the backyard having fun. Your consistent support is what builds their confidence. Being there is your most important role of all.” – Allen Vermeulen, Director of Slot Operations
“Being a working father means carrying dad guilt in one hand and coffee in the other. It’s exhausting, rewarding, and sometimes feels like I’m missing moments while working overtime for future ones. But at the end of the day, everything I do is for my family… even if my kids still think I leave the house every morning just to ‘go hang out with coworkers.’” – Edgar Patino, Recruiter
“My greatest title will never be the one on my business card, it will always be Dad. Everything I do at work is to create a better life for my family” – Cesar Gutierrez, Security and Risk Manager
