The Importance of Reviewing Your Coverage

Have you ever been so caught up in life that you look back and realize you’ve been forgetting to take care of yourself?

I had a humbling moment the other day while driving down I-20. I noticed something in the median ahead: a car flipped completely upside down. Wow.

Now, I admit, my first thought as an insurance professional isn’t always what it should be. My wife often teases me because whenever we pass a wreck, I say, “That’s why I have a job.” But this time was different. I first hoped and prayed everyone involved was okay. Then my insurance brain kicked in. I wondered who their insurance provider was and hoped they had good coverage for medical bills and damage.

That’s when it hit me — when was the last time I checked my own coverage?

How can I not practice what I preach?

Life has changed a lot for me over the past few years, but my insurance hasn’t kept up. So I went back and updated everything to make sure it matched my current situation. I asked myself: If I didn’t have enough coverage, how much would I owe? Could I pay that? For my home, is my coverage enough to replace it in today’s inflationary economy? Does my policy offer 100% replacement cost?

These questions are important, and I encourage you to ask them, too. Financial distress is a hot topic today, and having adequate insurance can help prevent it.

Take the time to review your coverage with your current provider to ensure it fits your needs. The assets you’ve worked hard for are worth protecting, but most importantly, so is your peace of mind. And if you have questions, feel free to reach out to us.
