The energetic pulse and buzz of summer approaching is palpable in a place like Whitefish where the sun is finally waking from a long sleep. It is so energizing and yet can be depleting if you jump into action too fast and too soon. Fortunately, mother nature has a way of pulling back on the reins every few days with rain drops and colder temps. Although some may find this annoying, I believe it is a gentle reminder to not overdo or overextend our bodies and minds during this glorious transition into summer. With the days lengthening, it is hard to maintain a reasonable bedtime and the pull to be outside is strong.
I see it every year as people immediately jump into their summer sports without pacing the intensity of re-entry or engaging in proper training. Just the change from boots to flip flops is a massive shift for our bodies that we do without thought. So, as exciting as it is to get on the mountain bike, throw on our hiking shoes, and pull out the paddle board, we have to be mindful about intensity, frequency, and duration. Pace yourself so that you aren’t setting yourself up for an injury that you have to nurse while everyone else is outside playing.
Be sure to find ways to nourish your body and your mind to balance the scales. Drink your Jun tea from Vibrant Roots, get that Vin Yin class in at Love Yoga, grab your vitamin shots from Busy Bee IV, book a massage with Vibe Wellness Lounge, hit up the Rebel Roots food truck for a picnic, and be sure to get in for Physical Therapy, Acupuncture, and Chiropractic.
