Each year, Carrie Simpson-Petty and Jim Petty, from Stone House of Tubac, work with a variety of interesting and wonderful clients to remodel many surfaces and areas of their home. One part of their gallery business is creating cutting edge, unique, durable and beautiful finishes for floors, patios, countertops, backsplashes and beehives/fireplaces. Instead of clients having to rip out old countertops, backsplashes, or tiled flooring, Carrie and Jim apply micro-thin layers of Portland cement that they mix into custom colors right over the old existing surfaces. Very often, Carrie paints / glazes the old cabinetry as well, resulting in a completely transformed kitchen or bathroom.
Another important feature of their business is Carrie’s custom murals and wall finishes, as well as the fine art that both Jim and Carrie create for their gallery. Jim offers beautiful watercolors while Carrie offers oils, acrylics and art pieces created in Skimstone for outdoor and interior walls and backsplashes. Along with the original artwork, they offer beautiful giclees in a variety of sizes, with or without floating frames, as well as custom leather and cowhide frames. Clients and visitors who are traveling can enjoy a piece of their artwork featured on tempered glass cutting boards, tea towels, tumbled stone coasters, tiles, trivets, handmade wine totes, and greeting cards.
Stone House of Tubac also features unique hand-built pottery by two local artists: Vicki Jalving, a pottery artist from Montana, now living in Green Valley, who creates colorful and functional pieces featuring nature and wildlife from Montana and Arizona; and Jennifer Markham, a potter from Green Valley, who creates the popular French butter bells and sauce bowls, which have always been a hit.
By the end of summer, they plan to have a newly designed website featuring their beautiful concrete finishes and murals, as well as an online store to sell their fine art and unique retail items.
