Wellness Corner: Fatigue, Recovery, and Hormonal Health in Men

Over the last several years, more men have started asking questions about fatigue, recovery, sleep, and hormone health. Most are not looking for extreme solutions or quick fixes. Most are simply trying to understand why they no longer feel the way they used to physically.

For many men, the conversation starts with low energy. Recovery after exercise takes longer. Sleep feels lighter or less restorative. Motivation, focus, and stamina don’t hold up the way they used to, even when work schedules and responsibilities have not changed significantly. A lot of men simply assume this is part of getting older and continue pushing through it.

Sometimes lifestyle is the primary issue. Sleep, stress load, nutrition, body composition, alcohol intake, and inconsistent recovery patterns all influence how the body functions over time. Hormonal health is also part of that larger picture, particularly as men move through their 30s, 40s, and beyond.

One of the biggest misconceptions in men’s health is that hormone therapy is about maximizing testosterone levels or chasing performance. In reality, the goal is usually much more practical: understanding how different systems in the body are functioning together and whether there is an underlying imbalance contributing to fatigue, reduced recovery, or changes in how someone feels physically day to day.

In men’s health, there is rarely a single explanation. Lab values are important, but they’re only part of the picture. Sleep quality, stress response, activity level, metabolic health, and long-term habits all influence how someone feels day to day.

At Evergreen Compounding Pharmacy, we work closely with providers to support individualized care plans, including customized hormone therapies when appropriate. Through Harley’s work in functional medicine and involvement with The Forge Men’s Health initiative, these conversations are increasingly focused on long-term health, recovery, and sustainable performance rather than short-term fixes.

Too many men dismiss fatigue as simply “part of getting older.”  But persistent low energy, poor recovery, and changes in stamina are often signs it is time to take a closer look at sleep, stress, metabolic health, and hormone balance.

A lot of men spend years pushing through symptoms they’ve gradually learned to tolerate. In many cases, these conversations are worth having sooner rather than later.
