Hello Neighbors!
Summer is officially here, and I can’t wait to indulge in my favorite summer pastime: going to the beach with a good book, listening to Chill Lounge on Pandora, and breathing fresh, salty air. There’s a reason you feel instantly lighter the moment you step onto the sand. The beach engages all five senses in a way that naturally calms your nervous system. The sound of waves mimics rhythmic breathing, helping your body shift out of stress mode. The scent of salt air can elevate mood and reduce anxiety. Walking barefoot in the sand, often called “grounding,” can help you feel more centered and present. Add the warmth of the sun, while under an umbrella, wearing extra sunscreen, a big hat, and sunglasses, of course, and your brain gets a rare break from overstimulation. But while your mind relaxes, your skin works overtime.
Post-Beach Skin Recovery Ritual
A beach day exposes your skin to UV rays, saltwater, wind, and heat. Mix that with sunscreen and sweat, and you’ll need some post-beach aftercare.
Here are 3 simple steps: Gently cleanse, rehydrate, and soothe.
- Gently Cleanse: Use a non-exfoliating, gentle cleanser to remove sunscreen, salt, and sand without stripping your barrier.
- Rehydrate: Use products like Hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, and peptides.
- Soothe: Use products like green tea, chamomile, and Vitamin E.
Avoid retinol, strong acids, or aggressive exfoliation for at least 24–48 hours. Your skin needs recovery, not stimulation.
