Think herbal medicine is just chamomile tea and essential oils? Think again.

  1. Herbal medicine is still the world’s most common medicine.

According to the World Health Organization, approximately 75% of the world’s population relies on traditional plant-based medicine as part of their primary healthcare.

In many parts of the world, herbs aren’t considered “alternative” medicine—they’re simply medicine.

  1. Some of your favorite kitchen ingredients are actually herbal remedies.

Garlic. Ginger. Cinnamon. Peppermint. Parsley.

These everyday foods have long histories of traditional use for supporting digestion, circulation, immune health, and overall wellness. Sometimes the line between food and medicine isn’t as clear as we think.

  1. Herbal medicine isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Two people with the same complaint may benefit from completely different herbs.

One person struggling with stress may need calming, relaxing herbs. Another may need nourishing herbs that support resilience and restoration. Matching the right herb to the right person is one of the reasons herbal medicine can be so individualized.

  1. Herbs come in more forms than tea.

While tea is often the easiest place to start, herbs can also be used as:

  • Tinctures (concentrated liquid extracts)
  • Salves and oils for skin support
  • Compresses and poultices
  • Culinary herbs incorporated into meals
  • Herbal Supplements
  • Bulk herbs for creating remedies at home

At The Lamb Shoppe & Wellness Center, we handcraft many of our own herbal teas, tinctures, salves, and botanical preparations right here 10 miles west of Hutchinson on Highway 7.

  1. Herbal medicine is both ancient and modern.

Herbal medicine has over 5,000 years of recorded history spanning ancient Egypt, China, Ayurveda, European traditions, and Indigenous healing practices.

Today, researchers continue to study plants and validate many traditional uses. Herbal medicine isn’t about choosing between old wisdom and modern science—it’s about learning from both.

Whether you’re curious about a calming tea, interested in learning how to use herbs safely at home, or looking for more personalized wellness support, herbal medicine offers practical tools that can be woven into everyday life.

At The Lamb Shoppe, we believe herbal medicine should be approachable, empowering, and rooted in education. Through consultations with Clinical Herbalist Connie Karstens, handcrafted herbal products, bulk herbs, classes, herb walks, and workshops, our goal is simple: to help people rediscover the remarkable ways plants can support health and well-being.

You might just find that the “weeds” in your backyard and the spices in your kitchen have a much more interesting story to tell than you ever imagined.
