A Smart Start for 560 Local Newborns

If estimates are accurate, roughly 560 babies were born in the 41017 ZIP code during 2025. That’s 560 local families celebrating a new addition—and now, potentially benefiting from a new federal savings opportunity designed to give children a financial head start.

Created under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) of 2025, Trump Accounts are tax-advantaged savings accounts for U.S. citizen children under age 18. The accounts allow up to $5,000 in annual contributions, helping families begin long-term investing early in a child’s life.

To launch the program, the federal government will provide a $1,000 seed deposit for eligible children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028. There are no household income restrictions to qualify for the initial government contribution.

If every eligible child born in 41017 during 2025 participates, that could mean approximately $560,000 in federal seed money invested in our community’s next generation.

Getting Started

Parents of eligible children should:

  • Obtain a Social Security Number -A valid Social Security number is required to participate.
  • Register Online – Families can begin the process through TrumpAccounts.gov, where parents and guardians can register and receive program updates.
  • Complete Activation – Once notified by the Treasury Department, families will need to complete the activation process before contributions and government deposits can be received.

Making the Most of the Opportunity

Trump Accounts are best viewed as part of a broader financial plan—not a replacement for one.

Families should continue to:

  • Maintain an emergency fund
  • Consider 529 plans for education savings
  • Make regular contributions once the accounts become fully operational

While Trump Accounts do not provide an immediate tax deduction, they offer something equally valuable: time. Starting early allows investments decades to grow through the power of compounding.

The Local Takeaway

For the approximately 560 babies born in 41017 during 2025, the biggest advantage isn’t the $1,000 government deposit—it’s the opportunity to begin investing from the very start.

Social Security Number → Register at TrumpAccounts.gov → Complete Activation → Begin Contributions → Receive the $1,000 Seed Deposit

For many local families, this could become one of the simplest and most impactful financial decisions made during a child’s first year of life.

Trump Accounts offer tax deferred growth on earnings. Family contributions are made with after tax dollars, and eligible employer contributions may be excluded from the employee’s taxable income. A one time $1,000 federal contribution may be available for eligible children born between 2025 and 2028. Distributions are generally prohibited during the child’s growth period and, once permitted, are taxable as ordinary income and may be subject to a 10% IRS early distribution penalty if taken before age 59½. Contribution limits and other restrictions apply, and some rules remain subject to future Treasury and IRS guidance. Consult a qualified tax advisor or financial professional before making decisions.
