A Modern Approach to Treat Active Acne

For many teens and adults, acne is more than an occasional breakout. Active acne can be painful, frustrating, and emotionally stressful. It can also leave behind redness, discoloration, and permanent scars if not treated early. While prescription creams, oral antibiotics, chemical peels, photodynamic therapy, and Accutane (isotretinoin) remain important acne treatments, newer laser technologies are changing how dermatologists treat active acne.

One of the most exciting advances is the AccureTM 1726 nm laser, an FDA-cleared treatment for inflammatory acne. AccureTM is designed to target the sebaceous glands, or oil glands, the root cause of acne. Excessive oil contributes to clogged pores, inflammation, and acne breakouts. The AccureTM laser uses a precise wavelength to heat these oil glands in a controlled way, helping reduce oil production and improve acne.

For patients who want an alternative to Accutane (isotretinoin), or who cannot take oral medication because of side effects, pregnancy restrictions, lab monitoring, or personal preference, AccureTM may be an excellent option.

Most patients return to school, work, and normal activities right after treatment. The discomfort sometimes associated with the laser can be mitigated with pre-treatment measures such as cooling, topical numbing, and physician-directed pain-control options.

Accure treatments are typically performed as a series, with results developing gradually as oil gland activity decreases. Patients can notice improvement during the treatment, but the best results are often seen several months after the final treatment.  Results are long-lasting and comparable to isotretinoin.

The AccureTM laser offers a modern acne solution that targets breakouts at the source, helping patients achieve clearer, healthier skin while also reducing the risk of long-term redness, discoloration, and scarring.
