The next chapter in FC Richmond’s story is officially underway.

After a decade of planning, collaboration, and community support, construction is underway on FC Richmond’s new soccer complex in southwestern Chesterfield County. Located along Genito Road, the future facility marks a major milestone for one of the region’s premier youth soccer organizations and reflects years of vision, dedication, and community investment.

“Breaking ground is an exciting step forward for FC Richmond and a significant investment in the future of our club,” said Executive Director Trip Ellis. “Countless volunteers, board members, coaches, families, and community partners have contributed their time and talents to help make this vision a reality. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has played a role in bringing us to this moment.”

More than just a collection of fields, the project represents a long-term investment in youth development, community connection, and the continued growth of soccer throughout Chesterfield County and Central Virginia.

A Permanent Home for FC Richmond

For over 40 years, FC Richmond has operated across multiple county parks and facilities while serving thousands of families through both recreational and competitive soccer programs. FC Richmond currently serves more than 3,200 athletes each year through its recreational, developmental, futsal, and travel soccer programs.

The new complex will provide FC Richmond with a true home base allowing us to enhance and expand programming to benefit our membership and the local community.

“This complex is about much more than soccer fields,” Ellis said. “It will provide a place where our players, families, coaches, and alumni can come together and truly feel connected. Having a permanent home will strengthen our club culture, create new opportunities for community engagement, and ensure FC Richmond continues to thrive for generations to come.”

FC Richmond will continue utilizing its current fields throughout the county, ensuring members continue to enjoy the same convenient access to facilities and programming they have come to expect while expanding opportunities through the new complex.

Phase One Construction Plans

Phase One of the project is expected to be completed in late 2026 or early 2027 and will establish the foundation for the complex’s broader long-term vision.

Initial construction plans include:

  • Three full-sized natural Bermuda grass soccer fields
  • Lighted parking areas to improve accessibility and safety
  • Road improvements along Genito Road
  • Groundwork and infrastructure preparation for future phases of development

These first improvements will immediately expand FC Richmond’s field capacity while laying the groundwork for a much larger destination sports facility.

A Vision for the Future

Future phases of the project will continue transforming the complex into a premier soccer destination for the region. Planned additions include:

  • Three full-sized fields; one feature field with in-ground spectator seating
  • Three small-sided fields for youth development and training
  • A dedicated athletic training area
  • A multi-purpose indoor facility featuring futsal courts, offices, meeting spaces, and restrooms
  • A clubhouse with an alumni grill designed to foster community and connection
  • A Remembrance Garden honoring the individuals whose dedication helped shape FC Richmond’s long-standing culture of excellence

Together, these elements reflect FC Richmond’s commitment not only to athletic development, but also to creating a lasting, community-centered environment for players, families, alumni, and supporters. The project also reinforces FC Richmond’s long-term mission of using soccer as a vehicle for building character, teamwork, and leadership while creating meaningful opportunities for young athletes to succeed both on and off the field.
