Happy 250th Birthday to America: Our Nation’s Values Have Endured the Test of Time!

The United States of America has the “oldest written national framework of government still in active use” (www.uh.edu). This written national framework has, in a large part, enabled us to celebrate our 250th birthday this year!

So, what about our national framework provided for this stability? I am sure this answer depends upon who you ask. However, I have been fascinated by American history since 2007. I have read quite a bit about our country’s miraculous founding. Repeatedly, it appears to me that our national framework was grounded upon values and morals that are consistent with Christianity.

This is not to say that our Founder’s intended to form a national religion. This is also not to say that these values and morals are isolated to Christianity.

What I found in my research is that our founder’s wanted our national framework to be grounded upon Christian values and morals. So, what support do I have for this? For my first example, it was John Quincy Adams, our nation’s sixth President, who stated, “The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.”

For my second example, I offer what Thomas Jefferson, our 3rd President, stated, “[Jesus’] system of morality was the most benevolent and sublime probably that has been ever taught, and consequently more perfect than those of any of the ancient philosophers.”

My third example resonates with the second, as Ben Franklin stated, “I think the system of [Jesus’] morals . . .  [are] the best the world ever saw or is likely to see.”

You see, based on my research, it became clear to me that our Founding Fathers repeatedly stressed our nation’s need for morality, which they also called piety and virtue, as the basis for our national framework of government.

From my perspective, when our government is failing us, it is veering away from this national framework that our Founding Father’s established.

So, other than our upcoming holiday of Independence Day, why would I write of this in a business publication? You see, these same morals and values are those that I have based my dental practice upon. We recognize that every patient has dignity, that patients deserve the freedom to make their treatment decisions, and we display honesty, kindness, and generosity. We are also charitable in the way we offer high quality care at a value fee. Further, our patients and visitors recognize our joy in serving, our trustworthiness, empathy, sympathy, and our strength and courage in doing what is right. They also recognize our patience and peacefulness.

You see, these values and morals don’t have to be spoken. We do not proselytize here. Instead, we live out and demonstrate these values and morals. And because of that, all we encounter within our walls recognized that our dental practice environment is unique and attractive. This is a very special place!

We invite you to experience our brand of patient-centered, general dental care. We do have the best patients in the world; shouldn’t you be one of them?
