Nothing says summer in the Hamptons quite like time spent around the pool or spa. While these amenities provide relaxation and enjoyment, they also require special attention when it comes to electrical safety.

Because water and electricity are a dangerous combination, all pool and spa electrical systems should be installed and maintained by a licensed professional. Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection is essential for outlets, pumps, lighting, and other equipment located near water. Homeowners should also periodically inspect pool lighting, control panels, and electrical connections for signs of wear, corrosion, or damage.

Avoid using extension cords near pools, and never operate electrical devices while standing in or near water. If you notice flickering lights, tripped breakers, or unusual equipment behavior, have the system inspected immediately.

A few preventative measures today can help ensure a safe and enjoyable summer season for family and guests alike.
