Summer is in the air, or as we like to say summer is in the hair! We couldn’t be more excited over here at Twig Hair Lounge. We are seeing the trends of summer hair take shape. We are seeing lots of low maintenance color, blonding and as well as sultry brunettes. I am so excited to share this article with you just in time for your summer refresh! Our guests are asking for effortless and low maintenance. They want to save time, money and those frustrating “I hate my hair!” moments. For the blondes, icy tones are taking a step back this summer and warmer, creamy beiges and dark honey blondes are center stage this summer. These are your beachy sunkissed looks that feel natural and luxurious. A regular highlight with foils to the root will begin to show a noticeable hardline growout that needs to be maintained every 6-8 weeks, however, if you are wanting to push your hair reservations out a bit longer between, you can ask your stylist about a few different options:

1. Root Shadow/Smudge- This is a technique that is used to soften the regrowth in the hair, allowing you to go 10-12 weeks between services. It is close to your natural color vs the contrasting bleached highlights, resulting in more of a natural growout.

2. Teasylights- This technique should only be used if your hair can handle it and is strong. A teasylight is a technique used when your stylist is doing highlights but wants to make sure there is no harsh growout. Your stylist will tease the hair in the foil before applying bleach. The result is a beautiful natural growout that you can go between 10-12 weeks in between services.

3. Lived In Balayage- A lived in balayage is when the stylist looks at the way your hair lays and intentionally paints the hair freehand and away from the roots to give the hair that lived in beachy sunkissed highlights. You can go longer between visits in a lived in Balayage. Depending on your hair you can go anywhere from 12 -16 weeks between visits with this service.

It has been said that blondes have more fun, but we say that statement is outdated this summer as the brunette bombshells are coming out in full force to show off their beautiful muted espresso and cocoa tones. They are trading stark contrasting highlights for soft smokey caramel ribbons through the hair that create a warm silky shine without a ton of maintenance. It gives a level of summer sophistication that can be kept up year round. Depending on your natural color, you can go anywhere from 6-16 weeks between this service. While going longer between the larger services is nice on our bank account and time

commitments, we still want to keep our hair fresh in between. The perfect low cost low time commitment in between larger services is a toner or a glaze. A toner lasts about 3-5 weeks. It is what gives your hair color the tone you are looking for. For example, I mentioned the creamy beige blonde, what gives it that color/tone is the toner. To keep your blonde fresh you should get a toner done at the halfway point between services. It gives your hair beautiful bright new life at a fraction of the cost and time. It doesn’t replace your regular service, but it’s a good update between visits.

A gloss lasts about 4-6 washes, but it does not change your hair color. What it does do is adds shine and manageability. Unlike a toner that deposits color, a glaze sits on top of the hair creating a layer of protection for your hair.

Gloss benefits include:

1. Environmental Shield- The clear coat defends strands against pollution and UV exposure which dulls your color and stresses your hair strands.

2. Frizz & Humidity Control By sealing the cuticle, it locks moisture out and prevents frizz. A glaze washes out in 4-6 washes so this isn’t a permanent solution to frizz, but can be a good in between fix.

3. Color Preservation- It creates a barrier that prevents color molecules from washing out or fading quickly. We all love long lasting color!
