Back to School: 5 Healthy Dental Habits for the New School Year

With summer ending and the school year approaching, it’s a great time to start a healthy dental routine! Follow these steps to ensure your smile is ready for yearbook photos!

1. Contact Your Dentist – We all know it’s tricky to schedule appointments during school hours. Schedule a cleaning and exam during the last weeks of summer to avoid the hassle.

2. Start a Morning Routine – Morning brushing should be done after breakfast. This will help remove sugary food and freshen breath for the day.

3. Drink Water – Water is the only “safe” drink to sip throughout the day. Make sure to find a spill-proof water bottle for school.

4. Pick Healthy Snacks – Stick with fruits, vegetables, and cheese. Packaged snacks (like goldfish, pretzels, and granola bars) contain high amounts of sugar and stick to teeth.

5. Brush and Floss – Toothpaste should be the last thing to touch teeth before bed. Make sure to brush for two minutes and floss every night.

First Visit by Age One!

The last weeks of August and first weeks of September are a great time to schedule your infant for the first dental visit. With the older kids returning to school, most pediatric dental offices have more scheduling flexibility for young patients. The first visit is important to establish healthy habits and ensure proper growth and development. Our office is located within Ascension St. Vincent Hospital (just south of Clay Terrace shopping plaza), with easy access from Carmel, Westfield, Noblesville, Zionsville, and Indianapolis.

Now accepting new patients. Please call or visit our website to request an appointment today. We are excited to meet you!
