Morgan recently sat down with Kyle Evans of American Pride Roofing to talk about his background in the industry, the growth of his business, and how homeowners can navigate their projects and budget. This was such an information-rich conversation, we are continuing it next month. Be sure to come back for more!

Tell us a bit about your background, how American Pride Roofing got started.

I’ve been doing this for a long time; over a decade. I was a sales manager for another company that ran many different trades. I kind of did the same thing for them over there for many years before I decided that I wanted to be on top of my own ladder instead of looking up at somebody else on top of theirs. We started this company a couple years ago, and now we’ve established our contractors and we’re confident and comfortable with their quality, their service, and their customer care. We’ve been able to adapt and offer anything exterior: windows, doors, siding, soffit, facia, gutters, and roofing of any kind. We’ve expanded quite a bit over the last couple years, even with just the short time, I would say that we’ve been an explosive presence here in Willow Springs and the surrounding area.

What are some of the most common questions that you get from people about exterior remodeling?

Most of the questions we get are, what’s the best material for our goal? Some people’s goal is that they just want to change the color. They hate the color and they want to change the face of it. Then the question is, which product is the right one for those on a limited budget? Vinyl would be my answer for that. What I like to do is give 3 options: a good, better, best. If somebody ever comes at me and says, “Hey, we’re looking at changing our exterior. We’re really not happy with it or it’s damaged and it needs to be updated.” I’ll try to give them several options. I want them to see what options they have, which I know a lot of companies don’t offer. They try to just do whatever they’re comfortable doing, not with what the customer’s comfortable doing. My goal is, when we sit down at the kitchen table with the customer, I want to make sure that we’re offering them several different things. Maybe the cheapest isn’t the right one for them. Maybe they were looking for something that was going to be longer lasting and more durable, something they didn’t have to maintain. Sometimes the cheaper option is not always the best one for the customer. Maybe they want the more expensive product because of what it offers. The middle of the road would be some sort of hardboard siding, and I would talk with them a little bit about what they were comfortable with having me bid. And then I have some premium sidings that we could do as the best option for least maintenance, longest life, and best overall aesthetics when it’s done.
