How many times have you heard someone say, “We’ll have to get together soon?”
We all say it with the best intentions. Life gets busy, schedules fill up, kids have activities, work demands our attention, and before we know it, months have passed since we’ve seen friends, family members, or neighbors we genuinely enjoy spending time with.
One of the things I’ve learned through years in the restaurant business is that people often wait for a special occasion to gather. They wait for a birthday, an anniversary, a promotion, a graduation, or a holiday before making plans to sit down together.
I’m here to ask, why wait? Getting together IS the occasion.
Every day at Neroli, we have the privilege of watching life’s milestones unfold around our tables. Some are major celebrations years in the making, while others are much simpler. This time of year we see many families enjoying dinner before a child leaves for college. Friends often reconnect after going through a busy season of life. Snowbird grandparents enjoy some quality time with their grandkids. Neighbors catch up over a glass of wine, or a tired couple spends a special evening together after a long week.
None of those moments may seem extraordinary at the time, but they often become the memories we cherish most – remember that night at Neroli?
As summer begins to wind down and August is here, it reminds us just how quickly time moves. The warm evenings that seemed endless in June suddenly feel numbered. The school buses are warming up, fall sports practices are underway and our calendars are about to get crowded once again.
Don’t postpone the moments that matter.
Too often, we convince ourselves there will be another opportunity, another weekend, another month, another season. Sometimes there is, and sometimes there isn’t. That’s why creating opportunities to connect with the people we care about is so important.
Food has always been one of the great reasons people come together. It creates a natural pause in our day. We put our phones down and share stories over laughs as we celebrate accomplishments. It’s also a chance to offer support during difficult times by reconnecting and listening.
Simple interactions strengthen relationships in ways difficult to replicate anywhere else.
Growing up in an Italian family, meals were never just about eating. The table was where conversations happened, lessons were learned, stories were told and retold, and relationships grew stronger. That philosophy continues to influence everything we do today at Neroli.
Whether you’re celebrating a major milestone or simply looking for an excuse to spend time with people you care about, don’t underestimate the value of gathering together. The occasion doesn’t need to be grand. You don’t need to send a formal invitation. Just show up.
We are in summer’s final chapter, so reach out to that friend you’ve been meaning to call, that family member you’ve been meaning to see, or those neighbors you’ve been meaning to get together with.
Every opportunity to gather is worth celebrating.
