The 51st annual Birds in Art exhibition is set to open on Saturday, September 12 at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau. The exhibition features artwork by one hundred artists from across the world, all of which were completed within the last three years.
The exhibition brings together a fascinating array of avian-inspired, two- and three dimensional artworks. This year, over 672 artists submitted 1,108 artworks for consideration by the jury.
Of the one hundred artists, eighteen are first-time Birds in Art artists. Thirty-four are international, representing twelve different countries: Australia, Belgium, Canada, England, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Scotland, South Africa and Sweden. Twenty previously named Master Wildlife Artists will have artwork on view in the exhibition. This year’s exhibition also features the work of twelve artists residing in Wisconsin.
Birds in Art opening-day festivities on Saturday, September 12 include opportunities to meet over seventy visiting artists who flock to the Museum from throughout the world from 9 a.m. to noon, and Artists in Action demonstrations, 9 to 11 a.m. In the afternoon, Watch, Learn & Create will be held at the Glass Box Studio, a free, family-friendly program where visitors can work alongside artists to create their own works of art, from 1 to 4 p.m.
The exhibition will be on view during the Museum’s opening-weekend hours: from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and will remain on view through Sunday, January 3, 2027. Spend even more time at the Museum with newly expanded hours after Birds in Art opening weekend: Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the first Thursday of each month from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Admission is always free.
