As summer comes to an end and families settle into new school-year routines, September is a natural time to think about the importance of community. Strong communities don’t happen by accident. They are built by neighbors, schools, nonprofits, volunteers, and local businesses working together to support the people who live there.
Back-to-school season provides a perfect example. For families facing financial challenges, school supplies can be one more expense tom an already demanding budget. Local nonprofits and businesses often work behind the scenes to make sure children have the resources they need, and community support helps make those efforts possible. This past summer, local students benefited from community support in several ways. Among those efforts, JDV Electric donated back-to-school supplies to Child Guidance Resource Centers in Havertown. CGRC is a local nonprofit that helps kids and families through behavioral health counseling, autism services, and a special education school. A full backpack means a child starts the year ready and confident instead of behind. “We do a lot of residential electrical work in Havertown. Giving back is how we show up as a neighbor, not just as a contractor, and is something we can all be proud to put our name on” says Joe Voci – owner and operator of JDV Electric.

In June, JDV Electric donated time and money to help provide graduation caps and gowns for seniors at Upper Darby High School for their graduating commencement ceremony. “We wanted to ensure every senior had the opportunity to participate and wanted to promote a more inclusive graduation experience that allowed students to focus on celebrating their achievements and the successful completion of an important chapter in their lives,” says Dee Voci, Community Relations Manager at JDV.
Some electrical issues residents should be aware of during back-to-school time are the increased usage of electronics such as computers, laptops, tablets and more. Some older homes in Havertown may struggle to handle the high-power demands of these modern electronics. Wall plugs are something to consider as well. Older homes often do not have enough wall plugs to support current technology. Relying on multiple extension cords creates a serious fire hazard as the school weeks add up.
JDV Electric believes in giving back to the community and helping their neighbors. Whether it’s donating directly to schools or performing scheduled safety checks in older homes to identify possible electrical issues, the goal is to help create stronger connections among the people who live and work in the area.
