Unlock Hope. Build Community.
At 74, retired Brighton resident Vic wanted what most of us want: to feel safe in our own home and remain independent for as long as possible. But home had become a place of worry.
Sunken floors in his bathroom, living room, and bedroom turned everyday steps into potential falls. Living on a fixed income, with 60% of his income going toward his mortgage, Vic simply could not afford the repairs. The home he had worked hard to maintain was becoming a source of fear.
Then, hope came through Livingston County Habitat for Humanity.
Through the A Brush with Kindness program, volunteers repaired Vic’s floors, making his home safer and helping restore something that cannot be measured in dollars: his sense of security and dignity.
“It’s an absolute blessing, a godsend,” Vic said. “By donating, you change lives.”
Vic is one neighbor, but his story represents a much larger need. Seniors make up 21.3% of Livingston County’s population, and 28% of households live below the Federal Poverty Level or meet the ALICE threshold. More than 20 critical repair requests arrive each month, from wheelchair ramps and furnaces to safe roofs.
Behind every request is a neighbor who deserves to feel safe at home.
Your generosity can help make that possible. Be the key to hope, safety, and dignity.
