Wow, the summer certainly flew by quickly! But … our season is NOT over. Fall is actually THE best time to come to Lake George with your pups! It’s quieter and cooler, with plenty to do and see, and the kids are back in school. When you come to Lake George in the fall with your dog, temperatures can vary.
While we can still have warm days, they can also get cold. Watch the weather reports ahead of your trip and prepare accordingly. Some days are a combination of cool mornings and warm afternoons. Whenever you are traveling with your pups, please remember to clean up after them. If you are going on a hike, know that the hiking trails can be quite busy, even during the week. You may encounter other dogs in small spaces and in areas both inside and out. Know your dog and how they behave around others so everyone stays safe. Always be friendly and respectful to others. And always keep your dog on a leash when you are on a trail. As some trails are quite long and can be challenging due to elevation, remember to bring plenty of water and snacks. It is important to know your dog’s limits!
In October, many people dress up their dogs for Halloween. Should you choose to dress your pet in a costume, make sure that the outfit you select is nonrestrictive, fits properly, and is not worn for extended periods of time. Also, be aware of any physical restrictions: Make sure your pet is able to drink and eat, go to the bathroom, and breathe easily. There are plenty of wonderful selections for costumes and attire at the Dog Cabin in Lake George Village. We can also help ensure that everything fits your pup properly.
During the month of October, many homeowners decorate their yards with some pretty incredible decorations. Some can be quite large, moveable, loud, and scary. As you are walking your dog through neighborhoods, make sure you are aware of your surroundings and keep your dog close to keep them safe.

As we all know, the days get shorter in the fall, and it gets darker earlier. In preparation for afternoon and evening walks, be sure to bring reflective gear for your dog, as well as a flashlight.
